There’s a New Yogi In Town
Have your friends been raving about Yoga? Has your doctor been telling you to try Yoga because it helps reduce joint pain and improve joint flexibility, which helps with arthritis? Have you been riddled with anxiety? Recent studies have shown that Yoga poses (called “Asanas”) reduce the impact of exaggerated stress responses. Are you interested and want to check out what Yoga is all about? Never Fear, Free Community Yoga in The Park with Justine is here!
Beginning Wednesday, June 12th local Yogi Justine will take over the grassy knoll of Harvest Home Park for an all skill level FREE Yoga Session from 6:30pm-7:30pm. Free Yoga in the Park with Justine will be the 2nd Wednesday of the month through September, with the last class being September 11th.
Justine grew up in Cheviot and currently resides in Green Township with her husband and two children. It was a “no brainer” for Justine to choose Harvest Home Park as the location for Free Yoga Classes.
I was lucky to chat with Justine just after her Friday 10:30am class. The first thing that struck me was the ambience in the room. Justine’s rents the yoga space from Training Personally with Peggy Edwards, so I was prepared for a little deviation from the typical Yoga Studio, but I was wrong. Everything in the room was relaxing from the lighting to the music.
A Personal Story
Justine comes from a Montessori background where Yoga was utilized in the classroom as a way to teach balance, coordination and breathing. As a high school & collegiate athlete in Cross Country and Track, she searched for a new routine that would complement the rigorous workout schedule that she had. She found Vinyasa Yoga.
Vinyasa Yoga, referred to as a “modern day form for classical Indian Yoga” was founded 1948 by K. Pattabhi Jois. The style is hot and energetic, synchronizing breath with movements. What makes Vinyasa Yoga so impactful on your day to day life is that it calms your mind while you practice. Vinyasa Yoga is a moving mediation, so while improving your core, you can improve your well-being.
Justine continued to practice Vinyasa through her two pregnancies and found that it helped her with breathing during labor (hear that pregnant ladies!?) and found that it was very helpful to building her back and core strength up after having her children. Yoga had made such an impact on her life, Justine decided to become a Certified Yoga Instructor, hoping to bring Yoga to people of all ages, shapes and fitness levels.
Yoga With Justine
Yoga with Justine was born in 2018 after Justine earned her RYT 200 Certification. She found the perfect studio at Training Personally with Peggy Edwards, which is located at 3634 Boudinot Ave, next to Grace Lutheran Church, right across from BP. Justine has continued her Yoga education with Yoga for Kids, Class Themes, & Sequencing and Anatomy of Yoga.
At her studio, Justine offers a wide variety of classes for all fitness and skill levels. There is Yoga Basics, which teaches the foundation of posture. Chair Yoga is offered on Friday’s and is best for seniors or office workers. Restorative Yoga is long held poses – mostly seated or supported, with the goal being complete relaxation. End the week on Sunday with Slow Flow Yoga which brings a clearing of the mind through slow stretch.
Ever since Sesame Street did an episode focusing on Elmo and Abby learning Yoga, my 2 ½ year old has wanted to try it. I was happy to see that Justine offers Kids Yoga for a low price on Saturday Mornings. Kids Yoga is offered for $5 for a 30 minute group session. Justine recommends Kid Yoga for kids between the ages of 3-10, and accompanied by an adult. In this class, youngsters will learn concentration & focus while practicing coordination & balance through yoga poses accompanied with stories, songs, crafts and games.
I was excited to see that Justine offers private parties for different events - bachelorette party? Check. Birthday Party? Check. Just because you need relax before your spa day? Yup, Justine's got that too! Check out the full class schedule and pricing at Justine's website www.yogawithjustine.net
