Nearly 40 Years of Fun at the St. Al's Family Festival

The days are getting longer, the weather is (sometimes) getting warmer, the last day of school is quickly approaching, and the banners go up for the St. Al's Family Festival. These are the heralds of summer, at least on the West Side!

For nearly 40 years, St. Aloysious of Gonzaga Church on Bridgetown Rd. has been producing the Family Festival for the west side community. I had the pleasure of speaking with Jeff Hummel, with St. Al's Bridgetown Athletics to find out a little bit more about the bands that will be featured, any new things happening this year, or any fun tidbits of information.

For the first time, there will be bid or buy basket raffles with items donated from the local community, including minor league baseball tickets, gift certificates, and more. Also for raffle are a brand new grill, and there is a $5,000 cash raffle with tickets starting at only $5. Of course the old standards will still be there too, don't worry, you will still be able to get in on some Split the Pot!

Let's not forget the kids though! This year kids can buy all-you-can-ride bracelets all three nights of the festival. Each night features a local band in the evening; Friday is Project Doyle, Saturday is Dan Mazzella and Gen X, and Sunday is The Nick Netherton Band. In case of rain, bands will play in the gymnasium. Also new this year is the Taft's Brewhouse craft beer truck.

I hope you get the chance to check out the festival this year, for the first or the 100th time. Let's support our West Side institutions and show them how much we value what they bring to us!
